Sessions explained: what to expect
Sometimes there are things you want to talk through with someone, but with people close to you it feels too difficult.
Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone who isn’t linked to it all.
My aim is to be someone you can talk with, who won’t tell you what to do, or judge you for the things you say. And I will keep what you tell me confidential*, so you can feel safe discussing things you might not want friends or family to hear.
When, how many and how much?
I’m offering face to face in person sessions, one to one. These are available on Fridays and each session is £45.
You can have as many sessions as you like, and everyone has different needs at different times so I’m not going to tell you how many sessions you should have. You pay per session and you don’t need to commit in advance to a particular number of sessions.
Our sessions will be at the same time each and every week, so you can be sure that the space is there for you.
As long as you let me know 24 hrs in advance there is no charge for a missed sessions.
What will I have to do?
There are different types of counselling and talking therapy out there, with similarities and differences.
I’m a person centred counsellor, which means that in our sessions I will listen to whatever you share with me, but I won’t tell you what to do and I won’t judge you for anything you tell me.
There won’t be any homework, though many clients find they do a lot of thinking between sessions, but that’s entirely up to you.
You might start sessions with something particular in mind, or you might start not quite knowing what you want to talk about, there’s no pressure from me to stick to a particular subject. Just bring yourself to the session, however you are feeling that day, however much energy you have or don’t have.
Before we start
Before we start, I’ll need some contact details from you, one person in case of emergencies and also your GP details.
I will also send you a contract with details about our sessions, so we are both clear about our work together before we start. It’s not full of small print, but it’s so you and I can both feel safe about how things will work.
I’ll also send you information about how to get here, it’s not complicated but sometimes it’s nice to know what to expect first.
*Confidential?
It’s important for me to be transparent, so there are some limits to what I would keep confidential (and we can go over that in more detail if we start sessions together), but for the most part unless there is a serious risk to you or someone else, then it stays between us.
As a counsellor, I also have counselling supervision where I discuss my work with an experienced supervisor. Counsellors have supervision to make sure we do the right thing by our clients and in line with best practice. These supervision sessions are also confidential.
